Fons Sips Award 2019

Dear VdGM members,

In 2016, the Fons Sips Outstanding Achievement Award was created in honour of  the contributions of one of VdGM’s founding fathers, Alphons Jacobus Ignatius Sips to the establishment of VdGM, the European Young Doctors Movement of WONCA. It was created in order to ensure that the heritage and history of movement was not forgotten and in order to recognise great work and contribution of its members. The celebratory action was tinged with profound sadness as Fons Sips sadly passed away shortly after its creation.  The inaugural award was awarded to Fons Sips in memoriam and we were joined by his family in honouring him at the WONCA Europe Conference in Prague 2017.

This year we are happy to announce the 2nd edition of the Fons Sips Outstanding Achievement Award, to be announced during WONCA Europe Conference 2019 in Bratislava. The aim of the award is to recognise outstanding achievements of new and future family physicians/general practitioners and their contributions to VdGM. This is an award “by the members, for the members”, celebrating the passion and commitment of our members.

Nominations will be requested from the VdGM general membership. The nominations will be evaluated by a jury consisting of both VdGM Executive and Council members and WE board members. The winner will be announced during the closing ceremony of the WONCA Europe Conference 2019 in Bratislava.

Nominators and Nominees must be “young doctors”, meaning family medicine/general practice trainees/residents or within 5 years of completing their training/residency (on the date of nomination) and they must be a registered member of a WONCA Europe National Member Organisation. Nominators should demonstrate the nominees’ outstanding achievements in the field of family medicine and contribution to VdGM, the European Young Family Doctors Movement of WONCA.
