Friday Night Social & Set Dancing Workshop

As part of the Forum Programme and included in your registration fee, we have organised a very special social event on Friday evening. This event will take place in the Forum venue immediately after the formal opening ceremony.

The event will start with a buffet meal and a bar will be available should delegates wish to purchase a drink. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be on sale. The meal is included in your Forum registration fee.

After the meal you will be treated to a display of Irish dancing and music. We are hoping this will include a demonstration of sean-nós dancing which is a very old traditional type of Irish dancing.

There will then follow the highlight of the evening – a set dancing workshop. Set dancing, sometimes called "country sets", is a popular form of traditional Irish folk dancing. Set dances are based on quadrilles, which are court dances. These were transformed in the 1800s by rural Irish communities into a unique style of group folk dance. Set dances involve large numbers of people dancing together and they are great fun.

The event will finish by 10pm, so that should delegates wish they still have ample time to sample the delights of Dublin night life. Alternatively, in preparation for a full day at the Forum on Saturday, delegates may opt to get a full night’s sleep.
