In 2016, the Fons Sips Outstanding Achievement Award was created in honour of the contributions of one of VdGM’s founding fathers, Alphons Jacobus Ignatius Sips to the establishment of VdGM, the European Young Doctors Movement of WONCA. It was created in order to ensure that the heritage and history of movement was not forgotten and in order to recognise great work and contribution of its members. The celebratory action was tinged with profound sadness as Fons Sips sadly passed away shortly after its creation.
In 2014, we are ready to launch a Pan European meeting for trainees and junior Family Doctors, the VdGM Forum,
which will take place in Barcelona on 7th-8th February 2014. Our objective is to strengthen the relationships between our members, provide a true platform based on continuity and offer a tailored scientific and cultural programme.
The Family Medicine 360° Program is a global exchange program for medical doctors training in Family Medicine/General Practice and junior Family Doctors/General Practitioners (within five years of completing residency training). It enables participants to spend up to 4 weeks visiting the Primary Health Care System of a different country, all over the world.
The money in the VdGM Fund is protected and dedicated to provide bursaries to support VdGM Members to participate in VdGM Events, especially the Forum and the Pre-Conference/WONCA Europe Conference. We use the VdGM Fund especially to support those who have low income, as well as those who are new to VdGM, in the hopes that they would be inspired to become active members in the long term, aiding in spreading the VdGM Virus across Europe!
